Eat This Or Wear That?

This post may seem weird at first, so let me explain...  I spent some (traumatizing) time trying on swimsuits this weekend and am now on a diet.  This is an attempt to turn my cravings into inspiration.  For example, I could pig out on chocolate chip cookies or slink around in this Dolce & Gabbana leopard print bikini.  I could devour my favorite red velvet cupcake or look super sweet in this Miu Miu bikini.  I could dig into this yummy mint chocolate chip ice cream or look cool in this Diane von Furstenberg triangle bikini.  Get the picture?

I will not eat carbs.  I will not eat carbs.  I. Will. Not. Eat. Carbs.

Sunless Tanning (Fake It Til' You Make It)

As pale and pasty as I currently am, I've felt a little more than uncomfortable sporting all of my cute spring dresses.  There's just something about the way I feel with a little rosy glow but with all the work on my plate, I see little time for lounging about at the pool.  I guess it's high time I take matters into my own hands.  Literally.

• I'm a firm believer in bronzer (1).  It nearly transforms my mood in an instant.
• A lightly shimmering oil moisturizes legs with a subtle tint (2).
• Perk up your complexion with a luminizer.  Dab on a little cream (3) or smooth on a liquid (4).
• Smooth rough elbows and knees before applying sunless tanner (8).  It sounds obvious, but I've gotten lazy and skipped this step.  Boy was I sorry.
• Keep your hair back with a soft band (9) and apply a light (oil-free) layer of moisture to your face (7).
• Sprays (5) are quick and easy, but I find it's hard to keep track of where I've been.  I usually like these best for the face, as I can lightly mist and then re-apply later if it's not dark enough.
• Tinted lotions (6) and gels are relatively easy to control.  The instant bronze makes it easy to find missed spots.  I like to wear medical gloves while applying to avoid the dreaded cheesy orange hands.  Once I'm done, I pull them off and just spray the tops of my hands!

Put A Cork In It

I've always liked the natural texture of cork.  Fabulously neutral, it pairs perfectly with this season's bright colors and looks equally chic with your basic blacks and whites.  Designers are finding all sorts of unique ways to use this renewable resource, adding it to hats, home decor and gadgets.  Two of my favorites are the chic fedora from San Diego Hat Company and the gorgeous Robyn Brooks lamp.

Gilt Complex: I love all things Gold

Crop Tops: Yes or No?

I've got to be honest.  When I realized crop-tops were making a comeback, my mind flashed back to the late eighties and early nineties and it was not a pretty picture.  I rocked that trend pretty hard back in high school and college, yet I can't seem to find a single photo.  Seems I might have burned them all once I came to my senses.

I'll admit that this season's are an improvement on the trend, although it is definitely not for everyone.  I'm not in terrible shape, but I'm not so sure I want to highlight the area!  If anything, I might try out Kate Bosworth's look and layer a crop top over a slim tank.

With June fast approaching, bridal shower season is in full gear!  I'll be attending one this weekend, and it got me thinking about all the fun things I could wear...

Head-scarf vs hat?

Found some photos from the past few beach vacations.  The verdict is in... I do NOT have good beach hair.  I love playing around in the water, and my super-straight (and limp) locks do not dry into Gisele-like beachy waves.  This year, I'm going to be prepared.  I like the traditional sun hats, but right now I'm really into the uber-chic wrapped head scarf too.  Which would you choose?

Color-blocking 101

Perhaps you like the color blocking trend, but find you are intimidated by selecting separates?  A color-blocked bag or pair of shoes easily pairs with a monochromatic outfit.  One of the easiest color-blocked items to pull of is a top or blouse.  You can almost always add white or black pants for an instant outfit with maximum effect!  Try some of the combinations below...

Try The Trend: Leopard Print Jeans

I go for crazy colorful tops and dresses, but I seem to stick to the basic blues when it comes to jeans... blah.  I guess I haven't really wanted to draw attention to my bottom half.  After seeing so many shots of cute celebs (Danielle Lineker, Hillary Rhoda & Mandy Moore, to name a few) sporting the fantastic feline-inspired Current Elliot style, I finally decided to dip my toe in the leopard-print pant trend.  Not quite ready to spend big on this experiment, I chose a Vanilla Star style just in case these never saw the light of day.  Tons of compliments later, I'm thinking of nabbing the grey version as well!

Pair these with easy knit tops, blazers and stilettos or ballet.  As with other patterns, keep it simple!
